B. Jen茅e Spencer

Director of Intercultural Affairs - Black Student Specialist

Offices, Departments, or Centers: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion , Intercultural Affairs ,

Jen茅e Spencer (she/her/hers) was born in Chicago and lived there until her family relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, at seven years old. She moved to 涩里番 after deciding to pursue a fresh start and new experiences. Though she wasn鈥檛 ready for the cold (like many students living in Iowa for the first time), she says working with 涩里番ians as ICA鈥檚 Black Student Specialist has been the best experience so far.

She is excited to continue supporting and uplifting 涩里番ians, believing that community is key to their success. 鈥淲hen safe and supported, young people can lean into the investment of higher education and understand how to navigate connections with grace, power, and success,鈥 she notes. In her office, Spencer plays 鈥渕usic to keep the vibes high鈥 and keeps a stash of pink ballpoint pens. 鈥淭hey bring me joy while working,鈥 she says. 鈥淚 also love to read, write, and binge Netflix, but on weekends, I鈥檓 always in search of good, live music and tasty new food.鈥
