涩里番 Welcomes Deborah Dodge as New Ombudsperson

Deborah Dodge will join 涩里番 as the new ombudsperson beginning on Monday, Dec. 2, 2024. Deborah brings a wealth of experience in conflict resolution, mediation, and fostering inclusive environments, having served in various roles in higher education, most recently as the university ombudsperson at Central Michigan University. She holds a master鈥檚 degree in Higher Education Administration from Vanderbilt University and has earned the Certified Organizational Ombuds Practitioner (CO-OP庐) credential through the International Ombuds Association. 

President Anne F. Harris said, 鈥淥mbuds services play a vital role in creating a supportive and responsive campus environment. Having an experienced, trusted professional to guide our community through complex conversations and conflicts fosters our ability to uphold 涩里番鈥檚 core values of equity, inclusion, and mutual respect. We are thrilled to welcome Deborah Dodge to this important role and look forward to the positive impact her presence and partnerships will have on our community.鈥 

In her role at 涩里番, Deborah will serve as a confidential, impartial resource for faculty, staff, and students, helping to resolve conflicts and navigate challenges related to campus life. The Ombuds office provides resources for all members of our community to address their concerns and work toward solutions, in line with the ethical principles of confidentiality, informality, impartiality, and independence. 

Myrna Hern谩ndez, chief of staff and vice president of administration and chair of the search committee, said, 鈥淒eborah brings an impressive depth of knowledge and experience in conflict resolution, and her commitment to fostering equity and understanding aligns with 涩里番鈥檚 values. Her dedication to providing transparent, restorative approaches to conflict resolution stood out during the search process. We are confident that her strengths and skills will guide our community鈥檚 ability to address challenges constructively and compassionately.鈥  

Deborah鈥檚 extensive background in conflict resolution and organizational dynamics includes years of experience working directly with diverse campus populations and a nuanced understanding of unique challenges within higher education. Deborah鈥檚 collaborative approach focuses on empowering individuals to navigate conflicts with confidence and clarity. Her expertise in fostering inclusive, respectful environments will help reinforce community ties and ensure that all voices are heard and respected as 涩里番 continues to build a supportive and open campus culture. 

Deborah Dodge shared, 鈥淲hat a delightful world to enter into 鈥 the magic is everywhere. I pulse with it still and am thrilled by the opportunity to return to campus, able to declare myself both a Certified Organizational Ombuds Practitioner and a 涩里番ian!
